Plan a 2027 AI engineer hire in the Philippines: monthly salary bands from late-2026 job ads, the employer cost on a ₱120,000 salary, and how to assess production skills.

For 2027 hiring, budget a production AI engineer in the Philippines at roughly ₱90,000 to ₱160,000 a month in base pay for a mid-level hire, and ₱120,000 to ₱180,000 or more when you need a senior who has already shipped retrieval systems or agents. Early applied roles are often advertised from about ₱70,000. These are planning ranges from PHP salaries disclosed on Philippine job ads in October 2026. They are not a forecast, and they are not the full cost of employment.
International remote offers are a second market. Do not convert a Manila employee salary into a US-dollar contractor rate and call them the same hire.
What “AI engineer” means on a 2027 job ad
Use the title only when the person will build software that calls models and is responsible for the result in production. Three neighbouring titles get mixed into the same search, and they are not the same budget.

A software engineer who ships features on existing models: APIs, retrieval-augmented generation, tools, evaluation and deployment. Python is the usual language.
When you train models
ML engineer
Training, features, model pipelines and MLOps. Hire this when you own models, not only when you call an API.
A different budget
Prompt operations
Writing prompts, reviewing outputs, or running a back-office workflow. Real work, often paid less, and not the person who designs your retrieval stack.
A software engineer who uses coding assistants is not an AI engineer. Say that before the salary conversation starts.
2027 salary ranges you can budget against
There is no official 2027 wage for this title. Treat the bands as a planning baseline from late-2026 advertised pay, then move inside the band for scope, scarcity and hours. Figures are monthly base salary. They exclude 13th-month pay, employer contributions and any international contractor premium.

A Glassdoor snapshot for “AI Engineer” in Manila, updated 22 October 2026, showed about ₱36,000–₱98,000 a month in total pay, with a median near ₱68,000. Annualised, a ₱120,000 monthly base is ₱1,440,000 before 13th-month pay. At an illustrative ₱58 per US$1, that is about US$25,000 a year. Replace ₱58 with your payroll rate.
Peso employment and dollar remote pay
Philippine employment, paid in pesos. This is the table above. It is the right comparison when a local company, your own entity, or an employer of record is the legal employer.
International remote, often paid in US dollars. Published 2026 commentary on direct overseas contracts puts many senior engineers, including AI specialists, around US$4,000–US$8,000 a month, with scarce production profiles discussed above that. Those figures are contractor rates, not the employee base salaries in the table. If the offer is in dollars, say so. Candidates convert it themselves.
Do not promise a 2027 percentage increase. Nobody has published a reliable 2027 settlement for this title. If production experience stays scarce, the top of the senior band is negotiated. Most of the disclosed ranges were Metro Manila or Philippines-remote. This guide does not have a large enough sample to publish a Cebu or provincial discount. Price the work and the hours.
What moves the offer
- Shipped systems. Ads toward the top of the band ask for retrieval, embeddings, tool use, evaluation and a system other people depend on.
- Software depth. The stronger ads ask for several years of production software work, then AI on top.
- Hours. US business hours are a night shift in the Philippines. Australian hours are a milder overlap. Write the schedule in the brief.
- A named stack. October 2026 production ads named Python, model APIs, vector databases, and agent or RAG frameworks.
- The employment model. A peso salary plus statutory benefits is not the same number as a dollar contractor rate with no 13th-month pay and no employer SSS share.
What you pay on top of a ₱120,000 salary
Using contribution schedules current in late 2026, ₱120,000 a month is already above the usual ceilings. Employer SSS is 10% of the ₱35,000 monthly salary credit. That is ₱6,230 a month in employer contributions, and ₱136,230 a month once 13th-month accrual is included. The year is ₱1,634,760 before private health cover, equipment, extra leave and the search fee. Raising the offer from ₱120,000 to ₱150,000 increases salary and 13th-month pay. It does not increase those capped contributions by the same percentage.

How to hire
Describe the system before you pick the title. What should be in production in six months, which model providers you already use, and who reviews the work. If you cannot describe a system, you are not ready to choose between an AI engineer and a software engineer.
Keep the must-have list short. Python and a service other people call. One shipped LLM feature, with a way to tell when it is wrong. Clear written English. Fine-tuning, a named vector database, or a cloud certificate can wait.
Assess a system. Ask for a repository, a short demo, or a design review. Then ask what the system decided, how they knew it was wrong, what they refused to leave in the prompt, and what broke after users touched it. Skip puzzle interviews that do not resemble the job.
