About the Role
We are seeking a Database Administrator to support the implementation and delivery of database infrastructure and services across various business and technology projects.
In this position, you will handle the deployment, configuration, migration, and implementation of database platforms, ensuring that solutions meet established technical standards, security requirements, and operational needs. You will work closely with project managers, service delivery teams, application specialists, infrastructure engineers, architects, and external vendors to ensure successful project execution.
The role emphasizes hands-on database implementation rather than solution architecture or design. You will contribute to infrastructure upgrades, database migrations, cloud adoption, and application transformation initiatives, ensuring that database environments are thoroughly tested, documented, and ready for operational support.
You will work with Microsoft SQL Server and Azure database technologies, including SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Azure SQL Database.
Key Responsibilities
Project Implementation and Delivery
- Carry out database implementation activities for infrastructure, application, and business transformation projects.
- Deploy and configure database environments according to project requirements and technical standards.
- Support database migrations, upgrades, and platform modernization initiatives.
- Coordinate database-related activities with project stakeholders and technical teams.
- Assist with testing, release preparation, production cutovers, and go-live support.
Database Administration
- Install, configure, patch, and upgrade Microsoft SQL Server and related database services.
- Implement and maintain backup, recovery, monitoring, and database maintenance procedures.
- Configure and support High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.
- Manage database security, user access, authentication, and permissions.
- Monitor database performance, availability, and health throughout implementation activities.
Cloud Database Services
- Deploy and maintain SQL Server environments hosted on Azure Virtual Machines.
- Implement Azure SQL Managed Instance and Azure SQL Database solutions.
- Assist with migrating on-premises databases to cloud-based platforms.
- Ensure database deployments are integrated with appropriate monitoring, backup, and operational support services.
Automation and Process Improvement
- Develop and maintain PowerShell and T-SQL scripts to streamline database administration and deployment activities.
- Apply established database standards, configuration templates, and implementation procedures.
- Identify opportunities to improve deployment consistency and reduce manual processes.
- Contribute to initiatives that enhance technical efficiency and standardize database operations.
Documentation and Operational Support
- Produce technical documentation, implementation records, and support runbooks.
- Prepare database environments for handover to Business As Usual (BAU) support teams.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database issues encountered during project implementation.
- Participate in post-implementation reviews and incorporate lessons learned into future projects.

Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience with Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database, and SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines.
- Exposure to database migration and cloud modernization projects.
- Familiarity with Redgate tools and database monitoring platforms.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and deployment automation.
- Experience in financial services or other regulated industries.
- Familiarity with ServiceNow and ITIL-based service management processes.
