Backend Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join a high-performing cross-functional technology team in Manila. In this role, you will work closely with talented engineers and product stakeholders to design, build, and improve modern backend solutions using current technologies and engineering best practices.

You will be part of a collaborative team environment, reporting to a technical lead who will support your development and help you grow in your career.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, enhance, and maintain reliable backend applications
• Develop automated tests to ensure code quality and system reliability
• Set up and support CI/CD pipelines for efficient software delivery
• Apply DevOps and Agile principles in day-to-day engineering work
• Work with cross-functional teams to define, design, and deliver new features
• Embed security best practices throughout the software development lifecycle
• Support team capability-building through mentoring and participation in technical interviews
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry developments

What We're Looking For

• Strong experience building backend systems using modern development tools and frameworks
• Proven experience developing RESTful APIs, working with databases, and integrating messaging services
• Solid software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented programming, functional programming, design patterns, concurrency, and test-driven development
• Experience with automated testing and CI/CD processes
• Comfortable working in Agile teams and collaborating across diverse, multicultural environments
• Interest in learning or expanding knowledge in cloud technologies, microservices, and IT risk practices

Minimum Qualifications

Required Skills

• Strong proficiency in Java 8 or above, with Java 11+ preferred
• Hands-on experience with Spring and Spring Boot
• Experience using code versioning tools, ideally Git
• Experience in test automation using tools such as JUnit and Mockito
• Working knowledge of RESTful API development
• Strong communication skills

Nice to Have

• Experience with database technologies such as SQL, JPA, and Hibernate
• Exposure to microservices architecture, containerization, and orchestration
• Experience with CI/CD platforms, ideally Azure DevOps, and build tools such as Maven
• Agile mindset and approach to software delivery
